The state weather bureau recorded the coldest morning yet this amihan season in Baguio City with the mercury dropping to 10.4 degrees Celsius early Tuesday.
The lowest temperature reading in Baguio City was observed at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
This is lower than the 12.2 degrees Celsius recorded last Dec. 1, 2018.
The cold weather is attributed to the strong northeast monsoon or amihan affecting Luzon and Visayas
Based on the PAGASA data, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Baguio City was 6.3 degrees Celsius on January 18, 1961.
Metro Manila meanwhile registered average temperature on Tuesday morning. Its lowest temperature this amihan season was recorded last Jan. 17, 2019 at 19 degrees Celsius.
The coldest day in history in Metro Manila was registered twice on February 4, 1987 and December 30, 1988 at 15.1 degrees Celsius. (Ellalyn De Vera-Ruiz)
