Razorback featured vocalist Nicole Laurel Asensio shared a heartfelt message on Facebook following the death of her best friend, drummer Brian Velasco on Wednesday morning.
“While on the plane this morning, I found myself staring at this photo for a long time. I don’t know why. I was deleting old photos to make space on my phone. Then while staring, I was thinking to myself about how you’ve always been there for me… through everything… through triumphs and destructiveness,” she said in a Facebook post.
Asensio said that Velasco, drummer of an iconic rock band Razorback is one her best friends since she was 16.
“I am proud to have shared the stage with you for 13 years now. I remember your advice, your honesty, your fake British accent, you cooking, the rare times you wanted to cook. I remember every freaking detail. I remember it all. I remember telling you how much you mean to me… over and over again. I remember us crying sometimes, but laughing too. You’re a big part of many of us.
“Now I’m back there, in that drowning lull because I don’t know where you are… I’m miles away, there’s nothing I can do and I don’t have any words. No words. No giggles,” she said.
“Jan 26 would’ve been our next gig together. I love you,” she added.
