DAVAO CITY – A 6.0-magnitude quake hit the town of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental province on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its updated bulletin issued at 12:06 p.m., Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 4:03 a.m. The epicenter was plotted 117 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town and had a depth of 40 km.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was an aftershock of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that shook Davao Oriental on December 29 last year.
Intensity IV was felt in Davao City, Mati City, and in San Josefa, Agusan del Sur, while Intensity III was registered in Digos City, Alabel and Malungon in Sarangani Province, Manay, Davao Oriental, and Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. The areas in General Santos City, Tupi South Cotabato, Glan, Kiamba, and Malapatan in Sarangani, and Makilala in Cotabato registered Intensity II, while Intensity I was felt in Gingoog City.
The tremor was tectonic in origin. Phivolcs said that aftershocks are expected.
