A truck driver died after a log went through his windshield and crushed his head inside his vehicle along MacArthur Highway, Karuhatan, Valenzuela City on Monday morning.
Sr. Supt. David Poklay, Valenzuela City Police chief, identified the victim as Ronald Cantado, 38, resident of Beta Street, Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila; and the suspect as Dickson Lante, 39, resident of Balaongan Street, Pantok, Meycauayan, Bulacan.
The victim was driving a drop-side truck while the suspect was onboard a tractor head with trailer truck carrying pieces of uncut lumber.
According to a report, both vehicles were traversing along the highway, with the suspect’s truck on the front.
Upon stopping in front of a supermarket due to a stoplight, a log protruding from Lante’s vehicle went through Cantado’s windshield and pinned his head against the car seat, killing him instantly.
Poklay said they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
“Iniimbestigahan pa po, pero definitely hindi dumulas ang log kasi intact pa rin (We are still investigating, but definitely the log did not slip because it is still intact),” he said.
The suspect, who is now under police custody, will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property.
