CEBU CITY—One of the most wanted persons in Toledo City was killed in an alleged shootout with police early Friday morning.
Police said Remegio Atelio, 53, fought back while being served an arrest warrant in his home in Sitio Canapnapan, Barangay Campo 8, around 5:30 a.m.
Police said Atelio was wanted for drug charges.
Recovered from his house were an M16 rifle, two .45 caliber pistols, a KG9 sub-machine gun, assorted bullets, five medium-sized packs and 25 sachets of suspected shabu.
In another incident, a municipal councilor in San Fernando town, south Cebu was gunned down by two men Thursday afternoon.
Reneboy Dacalos, 51, was sitting outside the store of his sister in Barangay South Poblacion when the assailants arrived and repeatedly shot him.
Dacalos died on the spot. The gunmen fled on a motorcycle, police said.
The motive of the attack is still under investigation, police said.
P03 Cleofas Cabrera Jr., desk officer of the San Fernando Police Statio, said eight spent.45 caliber shells were recovered from the crime scene.
Dacalos was running for re-election this year. He was the second municipal councilor in San Fernando killed in less than a year.
Last March 14, councilor Alexander Alicaway was gunned down a few meters from the town police station.
