INITAO, Misamis Oriental – An elderly woman, who was attending the funeral of a relative, was killed in a vehicular accident that injured five others along the highway fronting the Initao Public Cemetery in Barangay San Pedro here on Wednesday.
Andresa Jagos Sabado, 59, was declared dead-on-arrival in the hospital, while four of her co-passengers and driver were injured when the jeep they were riding collided with a passenger bus.
Injured were passengers Carmen J. Tupag, 56; Panfilo Tacbobo, 57; Fedomina J. Uy, 52; and Magdalena Bagares. The jeep’s driver was Juanito L. Waslu, 65.
According to Initao Municipal Police Chief Sr. Insp. Arlyne Ranario, the jeep bearing the victims was in a funeral motorcade on its way to the Initao Public Cemetery and was about to enter its gates when its engine suddenly conked out.
Waslu apparently lost control of the jeep while it was on a steep incline, sending the vehicle rolling backward through the highway.
It apparently crossed the center of the road, right on the path of the passenger bus, bound for Cagayan de Oro City from Iligan City, and driven by Ramil P. Malinao.
Because of the impact, Ranario said Sabado was thrown out of the vehicle.
