An estimated P5 million worth of property had been damaged after a fire hit a three-story school building at 1518 L. Guinto Street, Malate, Manila early morning Friday.
Initial report revealed that the fire broke out at the quarters of security guard and maintenance personnel located at the ground floor of Asian Social Institute.
Flames then spread to five adjacent units before escalating to the third floor.
The fire, verified at 2:32 a.m., was totally extinguished at 5:09 a.m.
There were no casualties but a certain Nelbert Ramirez, 56, sustained second degree burns on both hands.
Meanwhile, around 75 families also lost their homes on the same day due to separate fire incidents in Tondo district.
At 7:45 a.m., Guillermo Ramos’s shanty at 1017-F, Yuseco Street turned into an inferno.
Witnesses said the fire started at the ground floor level of Ramos’s house after a brownout occurred following an electrical explosion.
Three hours later, another fire was reported at Block 8 old site, Barangay 649, Zone 68, Baseco Compound occupied by a certain Jun and Bea.
Fire out was declared at 8:33 a.m. and 12:25 p.m., respectively.
The combined estimated worth of damage to property amounted to more or less P100, 000.
There were neither injuries nor casualties.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Manila is still determining the cause of fire for all cases.
