CALASIAO, Pangasinan – A policeman on AWOL (absent without official leave) was killed in an ambush after dropping off his children in school, Friday, in Barangay Mancup here.
Calasiao Chief of Police Supt. Franklin Ortiz identified the victim as PO3 Benjamin Nepuscua, 37, and a resident of Barangay Longos here.
Ortiz said Nepuscua was with his wife, and had just brought their children to school, when their vehicle was blocked by unidentified armed men.
Nepuscua bore the brunt of the attack as he sustained multiple bullet wounds that killed him on-the-spot.
Scene of the Crime Operatives later recovered at least 14 empty shells of an Armalite rifle.
Witnesses said the suspects immediately fled the crime scene onboard a gray Toyota Innova, which bore the plate number AHA 3012.
Ortiz said Nepuscua had been reassigned to Marawi in 2016, but never reported back for work.
In an interview with his relatives, they said victim has no death threats, and had not even quarrel with anyone.
