SUBIC FREEPORT – The Bureau of Customs (BoC) here is keeping an eye on the possible entry of illegal drugs and other contraband to the premier Freeport.
Lawyer Rhea M Gregorio, BoC district collector here, said that they are monitoring the daily shipment and port activities to avoid a repeat of the entry of a huge volume of shabu that resulted to the conviction of four Chinese nationals recently.
“I am actually very strict in screening the entry of shipment of goods into this port to prevent the dumping of illegal drugs and contraband,” Gregorio told Manila Bulletin.
Last December 14, four Chinese nationals were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 74, for the operation of a floating shabu laboratory aboard a fishing boat off Subic town.
Win Fai Lo, Shu Fook Leung, Kam Wah Kwok and Kwok Tung Chan, all from Hong Kong, were convicted by the court for their involvement in the shabu laboratory operation on board the 50-meter vessel that was seized by authorities off Barangay Calapandayan in Subic, Zambales on July 11, 2016.
