Two American nationals were arrested after they were allegedly caught transporting a body of a woman in box using a transport network vehicle service provider and then dumping the body into the Pasig River in Manila early Sunday morning.
Manila Police District Chief Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. identified the suspects as Troy Woody Jr., 21, currently billeted in a condominium unit in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City and Mir Islam, 22, currently billeted in a condominium in Ermita, Manila.
According to Grab driver, John Kenneth Quimba, the suspects booked a ride from a condominium in Mandaluyong City going to a mall in Manila.
He said he picked up the two at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the parking lot of the condominium unit where they loaded the box into the trunk of his car.
Before going to the original drop off point in Manila, the Grab driver said that the suspects requested to go to Baseco compound to see the Pasig River.
The suspects reportedly took out the box from the car’s trunk and dropped it to Pasig River in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila at around 3 a.m. on December 23.
The driver reported the incident to the Manila Police General Assignment and Investigation Section. Personnel from the MPD Homicide Team in coordination with the Mandaluyong City Police Station conducted a follow-up operation, which led to the arrest of Woody and Islam.
Both the suspects were positively identified by the driver. They were turned over to the Mandaluyong City Police Station.
Authorities eventually recovered the box and found the fatality duct-taped and wrapped in a garbage bag. She was identified as Tomi Michelle Masters, 23, also a US citizen from Indiana, who lived in the same condominium unit with Woody.
