Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Sunday said power should not be used to disrespect and step on other people.
“Do not bully anyone. Do not use your power to disrespect others. Do not use your power to coerce others,” the prelate said in his homily at the Manila Cathedral, where he celebrated the first of the traditional nine-day Simbang Gabi.
“Just because you have a position, you already have the right to step on others,” added Tagle.
The cardinal said in truth, the bully, who uses power to belittle others, is the one who is most afraid and insecure.
“The message I’m reading was from the time of Jesus, but it seems that it was written just yesterday. The secret to happiness is still the same: do not belittle others,” Tagle said.
His Eminence did not mention any particular name in his homily although the church and its leaders are often the target of the tirades of President Duterte.
During the launch of the Year of the Youth in the Archdiocese of Manila on December 2, the cardinal also took up the issuTagle: Power should not be used
