CAMP OLA, Albay – Three passengers died while six others sustained serious injuries when a motorcycle with a hauler loaded with at least nine riders collided with a van on Maharlika Highway in Basud town, Camarines Norte, Monday.
Chief Inspector Malu Calubaquib identified the fatalities as Hannah, 10; Yahzie, 4 and Anjanette Dimaano, 18.
Injured in the incident were Jaiza Mae Barrameda, 29; Jane Barrameda, 32; Joy Barrameda, 29; Jerome, 13; and Jero 7; all residents of Zone 2, Brgy Sooc, Lupi town, Camarines Sur.
Initial investigation by the police disclosed that van, driven by Juhaiber Ote, 29, an employee of A.M. Salong construction, lost traction and slipped as it was rounding a sharp curve on a rain-slicked section of the highway.
The out-of-control van ended up in the opposite lane and slammed into the motorcycle driven by Romulo Barrameda Jr., 35.
All the victims were brought to Camarines Norte Provincial Hospital and three of the passengers did not reach the hospital alive.
According to Calubaquib, six other motorcycle passengers were being treated at the hospital for serious injuries.
No one in the van was injured, police said.
Investigation is still ongoing as of press time while the driver of the PUV is at the custody of Basud PNP.
