President Duterte promised to give the three police officials a Yamaha dual bikes each for getting the highest marks in a motorcycle riding course Friday evening.

Duterte made the statement as head led the distribution of various certificates and awards to the graduates of the Motorcycle Riding Course (MCRC) and Motorcycle Riding Safety Training (MRST) at the Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao City.

“Sino ‘yung pinaka (Who has the)… the highest point, whatever?” Duterte asked at the middle of his speech.

“Can you stand up so… You stand up so I can recognize you. Ayaw ninyo ng motor (You don’t want a motorcycle)?” he said.

“You will receive each of you a dual Yamaha. OK ‘yan pagdating sa (That’s good when it comes to) dirt road. That’s my gift to you,” he added.

In his speech, Duterte lauded the policemen for taking an interest in riding motorcycles.

“You have to learn the way it should be. Madumi ito na trabaho. Madumi na delikado (This is a dirty and dangerous job),” he said.

“But then it’s one of the best fighting force, really, is the early responders, and it could only be the police who are riding motorcycles,” he added. “I am glad that you have taken interest in this.”

The President, however, reminded the graduates of the training course to remain steadfast in their role in promoting the proper safety mindset, driving proficiency, which ensures the safety of road and traffic conditions.

He also cautioned them against using government resources, particularly motorcycles of the Philippine National Police, for their own gain.

“Let me also remind you that whenever you use your motorcycles in the line of duty, you do so as agents of government and protectors of our people,” Duterte said.

“Never allow yourselves to be tempted to make profit out of it by offering services to private sectors. Those caught with this kind in the practice would have to be accountable to it,” he added.

The President also said that riders should also keep themselves safe while riding their motorcycles.

“If you do not handle that animal, it will kill you. Maniwala kayo (Believe me). Since then, marami na kaming namatay na (Since then a lot has died from it)…” Duterte said.

“If you think that you are bored or you are tired, just simply stop, then light a cigarette, if you smoke, and relax. Then continue,” he added.
