An Indonesian was rescued by Marine soldiers shortly after he escaped from his kidnappers on Thursday in Sulu.
Usman Yusuf, 35, escaped from his abductors in Sitio Tubig Bual, Barangay Bual, Luuk, Sulu at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Shortly after, troops from the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 3, Philippine Marine Ready Force Sulu under Joint Task Force Sulu rescued Yusuf in coordination with the Sulu Provincial Police Office and intelligence units, Lt. Col. Gerry M Besana, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said.
He was then brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital for medical check-up after which he was presented to the commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu prior to turnover to higher headquarters.
Yusuf was aboard Malaysian fishing/trawler vessel when he abducted at the seawaters off Sempornah, Sabah, Malaysia, last September 11.
With the rescue of Yusuf, the kidnap victims in the area are now down to six – three foreigners and three Filipinos.
“I commend the troops of the Joint Task Force Sulu for their unfaltering conduct of intensified military operations which bear outstanding accomplishments,” said Lt. Gen. Arnel B. dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
