Panglao addressing coliform level rise

TAGBILARAN CITY- Panglao, Bohol Mayor Leonila Montero on Sunday said the local government unit is alarmed by the spike in the coliform levels in the tourst town’s waters.

Montero, in a telephone interview, confirmed that the coliform levels in waters off the town’s coast exceeded safe level of 100 most probable number (MPN).
Montero said she already tasked concerned government agencies to look into the matter.
The lady mayor said that there are some resorts or hotels which may have something to do with the rising coliuform levels but did not eloaborate.
Montero said that it is also possible that bancas (small boats) that ferry tourists may be responsible.
She said that some of the bancas which have onboard toilets may be discharging sewage directly to sea.
The Department of Tourism earlier banned swimming in the waters off Alona Beach due to the coliform level increase.
