The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) bagged its first-ever Freedom of Information (FOI) Champion Award conferred by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), which recognizes the agency’s significant contributions to the progress and development of the PCOO’s FOI program.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim personally received the award bestowed by PCOO Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar and FOI Program Director Assistant Secretary Kris Ablan during the 2018 FOI Awards held at the National Museum of Fine Arts Auditorium in Manila.
“We are deeply honored and privileged to be recognized as the FOI Champion under the Agency Category. We adopt the best practices in the implementation of the FOI to assure that the information we are disseminating to the public are correct,” Lim said.
Aside from the FOI Champion Award, the MMDA also received a Plaque of Recognition for being one of the top requested and performing agencies in the electronic FOI (eFOI) platform.
Lim stressed that MMDA is one with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s effort to continue to uphold government transparency and forward the truth in the public service.
MMDA’s Freedom of Information Committee is composed of FOI Committee Head, FOI Decision Officer, Deputy FOI Decision Officer, FOI Receiving Officer, Assistant FOI Receiving Officer and Department Liaison Officers.
The MMDA-FOI committee follows a specific process to ensure that the information requested will be proper and released on time to the requesting party.
“The agency also hopes to develop more methods to better support this program in the future,” Lim added.
The PCOO, the lead agency in the implementation of Executive Order No. 2 which operationalizes the Constitutional mandate of the People’s Right to Information, spearheaded the search for FOI
