SURIGAO CITY – A 4.1 magnitude earthquake jolted the island of Siargao at dawn Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 12:59 a.m. Wednesday.
The epicenter was plotted 11 kilometers (km) northeast from the country’s surfing capital town of General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur province.
The tremor had a shallow depth of only 5 km, Phivolcs said.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no aftershock alert was raised by the state agency.
The General Luna and Surigao del Norte disaster risk reduction and management councils reported no damage or injury.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake also shook Davao Occidental province at 1:38 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and its epicenter was traced 213 km southeast of Sarangani, with a depth of 29 km, Phivolcs also said, in its bulletin.
The tectonic tremor in Sarangani did not cause any damage or injury, the state agency added.
