A suspicion that his wife is having an affair has reportedly prompted a rookie policeman to shoot fellow cop dead right inside a regional police camp in Taguig City.
All the parties involved in the alleged love triangle are policemen and assigned to the National Capitol Region Police Office (NCRPO), according to Metro Manila police chief Director Guillermo Eleazar.
Eleazar said that at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday shortly after the formation of policemen assigned to the NCRPO Regional Mobile Forces Battalion at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
He said suspect Police Officer 1 Carlos Aljama was seen confronting Police Officer 1 Mark Carlo Pasamba before three gunshots were heard.
“The suspect was immediately arrested by his responding companions. He was already turned over to the Taguig City Police Station and will be facing appropriate criminal charges,” said Eleazar.
Based on the initial investigation and the meeting with Eleazar and the suspect, the incident stemmed from a suspicion of the 31-year-old Aljama that his wife is having an affair with Pasamba.
“So this appears a case of love triangle, an isolated case. I talked to him and he apologized for what happened. But he has to face the consequence of his action,” said Eleazar.
Aljama, during a meeting with Eleazar, said he has been disturbed of his suspicion. All hell broke loose when he spotted Pasamba after a formation at Camp Bagong Diwa.
Aljama’s sudden burst of anger was witnessed by a fellow policeman who was present during the confrontation and eventual shooting.
The witness said he saw Aljama cursing Pasamba before he drew his firearm and shot the latter three times. Pasamba was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
The incident happened as stories of jealousy and betrayal are one of the most talked to in the social media due to a popular late night television series of the same topic. Clips of some scenes recently went viral in the social media.
Eleazar said the case involving Aljama and Pasamba highlights the importance of values formation in the police organization and the role of the commanders in addressing the personal problems of their men.
In the meeting, Eleazar told Aljama that he should have consulted his immediate commander and sought for assistance.
If only Aljama consulted his commanders, he should have received good pieces of advice that eventually prevented the incident that did not only ruin his police career but also his life over possibility of long detention and dismissal from the service.
“We have been giving importance to police ethical standard and this includes respect on the sanctity of marriage,” said Eleazar.
