Officials of Manila Police District (MPD) and Quiapo Church conducted Wednesday an early inspection of the Black Nazarene route for Traslacion 2019 less than two months before the annual procession on Jan. 9.
Starting at 6 a.m., MPD Deputy Director for Administration Senior Supt. Marcelino Pedrozo, Quiapo Church Rector Monsignor Hernando Coronel, and representatives from Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and Manila Health Department walked through the roads to be taken by the revered image and Catholic devotees.
“Inagahan lang natin para mas maganda ang preparasyon (We just did it early so we would have better preparation),” Pedrozo said.
During the rounds, Pedrozo noticed the DPWH project in front of the National Museum along Burgos Avenue as potential hazards or obstructions during the Traslacion 2019.
“Ang rekomendasyon natin tanggalin na (Our recommendation is to remove it),” he said.
The police official also noticed a building under construction along Hidalgo Street in Quiapo for lack of safety devices.
With regard to security, Pedrozo said no threats have been monitored.
“Pauna lang ito…may mga susunod pang walk through (This is just initial. We will have succeeding walk through),” he said.
