The road leading to Caticlan Jetty Port in Malay, Aklan, which serves as Boracay island’s main gateway, has been fully opened after its rehabilitation, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said recently.
Repair works on the 554-meter road involved asphalt overlaying along the national road including road shoulder, repair of drainage, de-clogging of pipe culverts, construction of box culverts, and installation of reinforced concrete pipes, metal frames and gratings, DPWH-Region 6 Director Wenceslao Leaño said.
She added that the DPWH maintenance personnel has installed the thermoplastic pavement markings along the newly-repaired road.
The road repair project was implemented under a P8.53-million budget. “The completion of the project would further ease travel around the newly-rehabilitated Boracay island,” said Leaño.
The DPWH has also finally linked the gaps of Boracay Circumferential Road but road widening works on this road will continue and is expected to be completed by 2019. The missing gap located at the backdoor of Bolabog Beach in barangay Balabag is part of the entire 4.12-kilometer Boracay Circumferential Road.
Leaño advised tourists to manage their expectations when they visit Boracay since the widening cannot be easily carried out considering obstructions and multiple structures hindering the way for the project’s immediate completion.
