Around 100 families were affected by a fire that hit a residential area in Pandacan, Manila Friday evening.
Investigation showed that the fire originated from the second floor of a two-story house owned by Juanito Buan, a former barangay chairman in Barangay 349, Zone 93 along Ilang-Ilang Street in Pandacan, Manila.
Witness Johenley Ocfemia, 31, said that the fire started from the second floor owned by Buan so he immediately called the attention of their neighbors.
According to Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), they consider the residential area to be ‘hazardous’ because the shanties are made of light materials and are too close to each other.
Arson investigators said the blaze started at 9:59 p.m. and reached the third alarm at 10:22 p.m., before it was finally put out at 12:57 a.m.
According to SF03 Sanny Lacuban, at least P500,000 worth of property was destroyed by the fire.
No casualties and injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
