Incumbent Manila mayor Joseph Estrada launched his reelection bid and filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) Wednesday morning.
Estrada’s relection bid will be challenged by former Manila mayor Alfredo Lim, who also filed his CoC on Wednesday, and former vice mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso.
“Given another three years to serve the public, I will fulfill the promise of bringing back the name of Manila as the Pearl of the Orient,” Estrada said.
Estrada vowed to serve Manila “until his last breath”.
Estrada said that he aims to start a legacy project in Manila by reclaiming lands in Manila Bay and develop it into a business district.
Estrada’s running mate is former Manila Rep. Amadeo Bagatsing.
Lim vowed to revive the medical services that the City of Manila offered under his leadership.
Five Manila hospitals were built during his time as mayor from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2007 to 2013.
“We will launch a fierce campaign against criminals and corruption, pursuant to the continuing campaign of President Duterte. This has to be done in Manila so that other cities may follow suit,” Lim said.
Lim lost to Estrada in the 2013 and 2016 elections.
