It was a slow second day for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) of candidates at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila.
If on the first day 27 filed their candidacies for senator, only 10 filed their COCs for the post on Friday, bringing to 37 the total number of senatorial bets.
As for partylist candidates, only 12 groups filed their Certificates of Nomination and Certificates of Acceptance as compared with yesterday’s 18.
“That is not a lot considering we had 27 yesterday and 10 now then that is a slow day,” said Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez.
He said it is possible that the bulk of filers will come on the latter part of the filing period.
“Most likely next week. I think that is one of the explanations for why we are having very few filers today because it is the coming weekend,” Jimenez said.
“So, maybe people thought let us give the weekend to think about it. But certainly after this weekend, Monday the sense of the impending end will operate and people will start hurrying things along,” he added.
“The usual experience is that the last day sees the greatest number of filers,” said Jimenez.
Among the prominent personalites who filed were reelectionist Nancy Binay, former BuCor Chief Ronald Bato Dela Rosa and lawyer Larry Gadon.
For partylist groups, Act Teachers, Kabataan and Gabriela were among the 12 for today.
