2 armed motorcycle-riding robbers gunned down in QC

Two armed motorcycle-riding robbers were killed after engaging in a shootout with policemen in Quezon City Wednesday night.

Personnel of Quezon City Police District-Masambong Police Station (PS-2) only described the still unidentified slain suspects to be wearing black and red long-sleeve shirts.

Prior to the incident, a 61-year-old female meat vendor said she was waiting for a ride home on the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Cooper Street in Barangay Paraiso around 9 p.m.

Minutes later, two men onboard a blue and white motorcycle suddenly arrived and stop in front of her.

The back rider alighted, pointed his gun to the victim and forcibly took away her blue handbag containing at least P2,000 cash, a mobile phone, and identification cards, before escaping.

Meanwhile, patrolling members of PS-2 Tactical Motorcycle Rider (TMR) chanced upon the incident and chased the fleeing suspects.

After a five-minute chase, the suspects, upon reaching the corner of San Jose Street and West Riverside Street, fired at the pursuing operatives resulting in a brief shootout.

Police officers were able to hit the two men that killed them on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies.

Seize in the crime scene were the suspects’ motorcycle without plate number, a caliber .38 gun, a Smith & Wesson Magnum 357 revolver, and six sachets of suspected shabu.

Police were also able to recover the victim’s stolen handbag.

Since Tuesday, eight suspected robbers were already killed in separate encounters with cops. Police are now investigating possible link on different incidents. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)

P3.2M worth of marijuana seized in QC

P3.2-million worth of marijuana were seized from a newly-identified drug personality in his rented house following a drug sting against him in Quezon City, Wednesday night.

Quezon City Police District Director, Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr., identified the arrested suspect as Jomel Bernas, 26, single, jobless, and a resident of Barangay West Fairview.

Police report showed that Bernas was a newly-identified drug personality involved in distribution of illegal drugs, particularly marijuana, in his area.

Members of QCPD-Batasan Police Station (PS-6) immediately set a buy-bust against Bernas along Ilang-ilang Extension, Area A, in Brgy. Payatas at past 10 p.m.

An undercover operative purchased P500 worth of marijuana from the suspect.

During the deal, Bernas told the poseur-buyer that he has more stocks of marijuana in his rented house.

After the drug trade, authorities collared Bernas and immediately proceeded to his rented house at Block 11, Lot 5, Lupang Biyaya Street in Brgy. West Fairview where operatives confiscated two black travelling bags containing at least 27 kilos of different variations of marijuana.

Operatives were able to seize 14 stalks of dried marijuana, 11 sachets of hash, a cannabis resin, nine sachets of dried marijuana leaves, seven bricks of dried marijuana leaves, and an unwrapped stalks of suspected marijuana, with a total estimated street value of P3.2 million.

Bernas is now under police custody and will be facing charges for violation of R.A. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)

Pedicab driver shot to death in Pasay

A pedicab driver died pedaling after he was shot by a still unidentified armed suspect while driving his pedicab in Pasay City on Wednesday.

The victim was identified by police as Gabriel Dela Cruz Dizon, 27, a resident of Bagong Sikat St., Baclaran, Parañaque City.

Investigation showed that the shooting incident occurred at around 3:50 in the afternoon along Bac 1-11 St., Don Carlos Village, Barangay 190, Zone 20, Pasay City.

Police said that the victim was driving his pedicab when he was shot by the unidentified gunman. After the incident, the suspect immediately fled on foot.

Authorities rushed the victim to the San Juan De Dios Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival after he suffered gunshot wounds to the chest.

A follow-up operation is now underway for possible identification of the suspect.

Police have yet to determine the motive of the incident as the case remains under investigation. (Dhel Nazario)
