Senior administration Rep. Winston Castelo has abandoned his partnership with supposed PDP-Laban running mate Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo in their planned bid to run for vice mayor and mayor of Quezon City, respectively.
Crisologo was clearly disappointed at Castelo’s decision, hinting that the lawmaker has been pressured from running against Councilor Gian Sotto, only son of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
Councilor Sotto is the runningmate of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte in her bid to be the next mayor of Quezon City, following the footsteps of her father former mayor-turned-House speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr.
The young Sotto is a distant nephew of Castelo whose father, the late Councilor Melanio Castelo, was a cousin of Senator Sotto’s father. Both hailed from Nueva Ecija.
“He (Castelo) had made his decision, I can’t do anything about it,” said Crisologo as he vowed to pursue his candidacy as top city executive. He said he will reveal, in the next few days, who his new running mate will be.
As this developed, former congressman, Chuck Mathay, and incumbent councilor, actor Roderick Paulate, also filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.
