Oriental Mindoro Rep. Paulino Salvador Leachon is seeking permission from the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark from October 18 to 25, 2018 then to Tokyo, Japan from October 28 to November 4 as part of his job.
In his urgent motion for granting authority to travel abroad, Leachon said that the purpose of the travel is to determine the concerns of the officers of the employees of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and the Philippine Consulate General in Copenhagen, as well as to attend the 18th Anti-Corruption Conference.
“Moreover, the accused would like to spend some time with his constituents who comprise the ever-increasing Filipino community in Tokyo, Japan in order to provide long-term solutions to their pressing problems, if any, by drafting worthwhile legislative measures in the House,” the motion read.
Leachon said he has already secured the 1st Endorsement of Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the travels, and he committed to return to the country after his travels.
He further added that he will “continuously discharge his duties and responsibilities to the people of the 1st district of Oriental Mindoro.”
Leachon is facing a graft charge in relation to the reportedly anomalous transactions made when he still was mayor of Calapan.
The transactions involved the delivery of sand to a property owned by private individual Juan Vinas using five city-owned dump trucks and drivers for free.
