The Supreme Court (SC) recommended to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Tuesday the nomination of six aspirants to the post vacated by retired Associate Justice Samuel R. Martires who is now the country’s Ombudsman.
Recommended for nomination were SC Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez and Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justices Manuel Barrios, Rosmari Carandang, Apolinario Bruselas, Japar Dimaampao, and Ramon Garcia.
The JBC – the constitutional body that accepts, screens, and nominates appointments to the judiciary – is set to interview today (September 26) the aspirants to the post.
It is from the list of nominees that would be submitted by the JBC that President Duterte would pick his appointee.
There are three vacancies in the 15-member SC. Aside from that left by Martires, the two other vacancies arose with the promotion of Teresita J. Leonardo de Castro as Chief justice and the retirement of Justice Presbitero J. Velasco Jr. last August 8.
