SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Typhoon “Ompong” is now moving toward Northern Luzon and expected to landfall in Cagayan-Isabela on Saturday morning, however, residents of this province were forced to leave their homes due to the preemptive evacuation ordered in five municipalities including this city Friday afternoon.
La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) headed by Aureliano Rulloda III, chief of PDRRMO, reported that preemptive evacuation of 532 families or 1,584 persons were enforced in San Fernando City, towns of Bauang, Bangar, Caba, and Sto. Tomas.
In San Fernando City, 20 families or 84 persons living along the coastal area were evacuated to San Agustin Elementary School, Barangay San Agustin.
In Bauang, 154 families or 374 persons in barangays Parian Oeste, Pudoc, and Payocpoc Oeste were evacuated to Calumbaya Elementary School.
In Bangar, there are 259 families or 722 persons in barangays Consuera, Gen Prim West, and Mindoro.
Caba town has 60 families or 208 total persons in barangays Santiago Sur, Santiago Norte, and San Jose. while Sto. Tomas town has 41 families or 137 persons in barangay Raois.
Flood- and landslide- prone areas are being monitored by several disaster response teams.
