BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental provincial government has allocated close to P100 million for projects that will benefit Negrense farmers and fishermen this year, Provincial Board Member Victor Javellana announced during the 2nd Food Production Heroes Assembly at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol here recently.
Javellana said that among the projects to be implemented are the P28 million irrigation development in nine municipalities, P14.6 million for insurance and a P25 million farm mechanization project.
Javellana, who heads the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Agriculture Committee, said that the allocation for crop insurance protection under the Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program (NFUCIP) will benefit about 16,000 farmers and fishermen, while the farm mechanization program will benefit rice farmers in six districts, including two government-run farms.
The provincial board also recently approved a resolution to extend a P7 million insurance coverage to farmers to protect them from the effects of climate change.
