CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A suspected drug pusher who is listed in the high value target (HVT) list of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was killed in a buy-bust operation in Odiongan, Romblon last Tuesday.
Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis D. Licup, regional director of Police Regional Office-MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) identified the suspect as Rolando Medina, 49, a resident of Malabanan, Balite, Batangas.
Medina was arrested following an entrapment operation conducted by Senior Inspector Kenneth Ding Gutierrez, chief of Odiongan Municipal Police Station, PDEA-4B Provincial Officer Ed Bryan Echavaria and Supt. Richard Ian T. Ang of Romblon Police Provincial Intelligence Bureau and Chief Insp. Winnerio Paguia of Police Mobile Force Company.
Chief Supt. Licup said the operation happened at 3:00 p.m. last August 14 in barangay Liwanag, Odiongan but the suspect, instead of surrendering himself, drew his handgun prompting the arresting team to shoot him.
The suspect was rushed to Romblon Provincial Hospital but he was pronounced dead-on-arrival (DOA) by the attending physician.
Police recovered from the suspect one caliber .38 revolver with serial Nr 177474 with four live ammunition and one spent shell, one piece heat-sealed transparent sachet containing crystalline substance suspected as shabu with estimated market value of more or less P30,000, one unit cellphone (Myphone) and one black wallet containing two identification cards. The recovered firearm was turned over to Provincial Crime Laboratory Office while the recovered suspected shabu was turned over to PDEA 4B Laboratory Section for chemical analysis.
The suspect was also positively identified by a certain Reynaldo M. Sombilon as the same person in an attempted murder incident that transpired on August 9, 2018 in Odiongan.
