Lapinig folk in shock following NPA raid

CATARMAN, Northern Samar – Lapinig Mayor Dr. Ma. Luisa A. Menzon on Saturday said she and her constituents are still in shock following the raid of the town’s police station by some 100 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) early Friday morning.

“We are still under state of shock after the incident and we are still under fear,”Mayor Menzon told the Manila Bulletin.

Menzon said the entire police station, including their police chief was relieved as 21 new police officers have been assigned to the municipality and reported to her early Saturday morning.

She said she was in her residence when the fully – armed NPA rebels carried out the surprise attack on the police station.

The NPA rebels carted away nine firerams from the police station.

She said Police Officer 2 Jerry Quilicol and Police Officer 1 Edizon Aguirre were wounded in the encounter were rushed to a Tacloban City hospital.

The NPA rebels, Menzon said, commandeered two dump trucks used by a private contractor in nearby Jipapad, Eastern Samar.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Army said it has teamed up with the Philippine National Police in pursuing the NPA rebels.
