MANGATAREM, Pangasinan — A spat over the distribution of 33 sacks of rice grain seeds from the Department of Agriculture (DA) turned bloody in Barangay Bogtong Bunao, here, where a village councilman ended up shooting his wife and the barangay captain last Thursday.
Chief Inspector Benjamin E. Zarate Jr., officer-in-charge of the local police, said the shooting left Barangay Chairman Ronald D. Aquino wounded and the wife of the gunman, Teresita F. Vicente, dead.
The suspect, Kagawad Philip V. Vicente, fled the scene immediately after the shooting shortly after noon, said Zarate.
He said Kag. Vicente fired two shots at Aquino, but also accidentally hit his wife Teresita Vicente, who was standing next to the barangay chairman.
The victims were rushed to the nearby Blessed Trinity General Hospital, where Teresita succumbed to a bullet wound in the leg.
At the regional police headquarters in Camp Oscar Florendo, La Union, Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula, regional director, said the Colt .45-caliber pistol found by probers at the scene will undergo ballistic test while the hunt is on for the suspect. (With a report from Freddie G. Lazaro)
