Reverse job fairs lauded

Published

By Leslie Ann Aquino

The plan of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to conduct reverse job fairs abroad for the “Build Build Build” infrastructure program of the government earned support from an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People.

CBCP ECMI Chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos even urged overseas Filipino workers wanting to be reunited with their families to seize the opportunity by participating in the job fair.

“We at CBCP ECMI support and encourage our OFWs to avail it,” he said in an interview.

The Balanga prelate added that this would ease pains and problems of family separations.

Santos said the government should really create jobs here to avoid brain and manpower drain.

Creating jobs here, he said is also the “primary duty” of the government.

“We will no longer be migrant workers sending country, and going abroad for jobs is just option, no longer forced choice,” said Santos.

Earlier, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the reverse job fairs aim to encourage OFWs to come back home.
