CAMP MALVAR, Batangas — The top cop in this province said the public has seen the last of a private armed group (PAG) allegedly involved in illegal drug trafficking, oil pilferage, extortion, and gun-for-hire with the arrest on Friday of, perhaps, the last member of the group in Mabini, this province.
Senior Superintendent Edwin Quilates, officer-in-charge of the Batangas Police Provincial Office, said Geronimo Ortega Bantugon, 56, was arrested at his residence in Barangay Sta Mesa, Mabini town at 7:10 a.m.
Simultaneous raids were conducted by joint police operatives in the different houses of Bantugon which resulted in the seizure of four high-powered firearms believed belonging to the Bantugan Group, whose leader was killed by police in 2016.
Quilates said the armed group was responsible for a wave of crime in Batangas and Mindoro Island.
