TACLOBAN CITY- Members of cause-oriented groups in Eastern Visayas held a march-rally against the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Duterte held here Monday.
The rally started at the People’s Center along Real Street, passed major thoroughfares and ended at Rizal Avenue where the protesters held a peaceful demonstration.
The protesters led by Cris Durana of Kadamay-Leyte denounced the Duterte administration for the numerous issues confronting the lives of the people nationwide.
Major General Raul Farnacio, commanding general of the 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based in Catbalogan City, Samar said the rally was only in Tacloban City.
Gen. Farnacio said the cause-oriented groups did not conduct a similar protest action outside of Tacloban.
Sr. Supt. Norberto D. Tuazon, Leyte Police Provincial Director, said there were also no rallies in Leyte.
Supt. Tuazon said there were also no takeover made by members of the militant group Kadamay of the housing projects in Babatngon and Carigara, Leyte.
It may be recalled that survivors of super-typhoon Yolanda in Babatngon, Leyte vowed to block members of Kadamay from taking over the resettlement project at Channel Ridgeview while the Local Government Unit of Carigara, Leyte installed barbed wires to the entrance of Eco Ville at Brgy. Sagkahan to prevent the militant groups from entering the housing projects.
