Head revisors of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) have been asked to resign for allegedly fraternizing with the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo.
Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos made the call after it was discovered that PET revisors went on an outing in a Pansol resort in Calamba, Laguna with one of Robredo’s party revisors, Osmundo Abulayan.
“They should (have) the decency to resign because what they did is an affront to the independence of the election protest process and to the judiciary,” Imee said in a statement.
“They should spare the whole PET from the backlash this controversy has created,” she pointed out.
Her brother, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. had already filed a manifestation which asked the PET to investigate the incident but the tribunal denied his request since it already conducted the investigation. He even showed screenshots of the Facebook photos of the outing.
Prior the PET ruling, Robredo filed a counter-manifestation which stated that the PET revisors had invited both camps to the outing and Marcos even sent snacks for the event.
Since Robredo’s legal counsel, lawyer Romulo Macalintal, admitted that the outing took place, Imee said this is enough proof of their misconduct, regardless.
“If they knew about the outing, they would not have made a big issue out of it. The food claim is laughable,” she said.
“No amount of media spin can hide the fact that PET and Leni’s revisors had an overnight swimming party in Pansol, Laguna. Everything else is a non-issue,” she added.
The PET has acted on the election protest of the former senator and has begun conducting a manual recount of the 2016 vice presidential polls.
In his manifestation, Bongbong expressed concerns that the Pansol outing shows that Robredo has influence to exert on the PET revisors and change the results of the manual recount.
