PALO, Leyte – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Leyte has tightened the security at the Archbishop Residence in Barangay Arado here to prevent any untoward incident, much like the threat made by an armed man at the Cebu Archbishop’s Palace last week.
Sr. Supt. Norberto Tuazon, Leyte Police Provincial Director, said he has ordered tightened security at the Archbishop’s Palace to ensure the safety of Archbishop John F. Du, and the priests and nuns living in the compound.
Tuazon said that, although there was no known security threat on the Leyte clergy, he ordered the Palo Police Station to continuously patrol the Leyte prelate’s residence.
Tuazon said he has also ordered the Palo Police to provide the priests the station’s hotline so that they could immediately respond in case of emergency.
He assured the Leyte priests of their protection, underscoring that the police and the church has always had good relationship and coordination.
Jeffrey Mendoza Cañedo, a resident of Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, was killed after he shot it out with members of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) at the residence of Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma in Cebu City last July 10.
Palma used to be the Archbishop of Palo and bishop of Calbayog, Samar.
