Duterte signed Kho’s appointment paper on July 11, 2018. He will serve in the Comelec until February 2, 2022.

Kho will be taking over the position vacated by Sheriff Abas who is now Comelec chairman. His appointment is yet to be confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (COA).

Kho is the fourth appointee of Duterte to the Comelec. Aside from Abas, the other two were Marlon Casquejo and Socorro Inting as Comelec commissioners.

Kho, who is also Duterte’s fraternity brother, was also assigned to head the task force that will reinvestigate the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.

Other appointees
The Palace also announced new appointments, including that of lawyer Kim Raisa Uy as assistant secretary at the Office of the Executive Secretary on July 9.

On Wednesday, the President also appointed Elisa May Arboleda-Cuevas and Gilbert Santos as executive director and director, respectively, at the National Privacy Commission.

Duterte also named four new directors at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE): Yahya Centi, Exequiel Ronie Guzman, Sarah Mirasol, and Cyril Ticao.

The President also appointed Cesar Idio, Harold Cabreros, and Ruben Carandang as new directors at the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) of the Department of National Defense (DND).

Promotion
Last week, the President approved the promotion of Police Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao as Police Chief Superintendent. Dumlao headed the investigation on the rogue policemen who killed South Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo inside Camp Crame in 2016.

He also approved the promotion of police chief superintendents Ma. O Ranada Aplasca, Lyndon Cubos, and Ericson Velasquez to the rank of Police Director on Thursday.

Comelec employees welcome Kho

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections Employees Union on Friday welcomed the appointment of former Department of Justice Undersecretary Antonio Kho Jr. as poll commissioner.

Comelec-EU President Mac Ramirez said they welcome the appointment as the seven-man Commission is now complete.

“With the Commission now complete, it is expected that the Comelec will now be able to do better in its preparations for the upcoming National and Local Elections in 2019,” he said. (With a report from Leslie Aquino)
