ZAMBOANGA CITY – A gunman shot dead the town vice mayor of Tawi-Tawi province along the busy road of Governor Alvarez Street in this city about 5:30 p.m., Wednesday.
The police identified the victim as Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi Vice Mayor Alrasid Mohammad Alih y Lipae, 53.
The police said a lone gunman shot and killed Alih while his Toyota Innova service vehicle with license plate number KDV-514, on stop near a traffic light at Gov Alvarez Street in this city.
Witnesses who saw the gunman told police probers that the gunman simply approached the service vehicle of Ali and shot him four times using a caliber .45 pistol.
Adding that after shooting Alih, the gunman had just casually walked towards the funeral homes, which is located a few just meters from where he shot Alih.
The police said Alih had just come from the city proper and was en-route to the village of Tetuan together with his driver, a lady companion and a police escort when the tragic incident happened.
Bystanders and his companion onboard the service vehicle immediately brought Alih to the Zamboanga Doctors Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police authorities in this city have immediately adopted a stricter measure to prevent a similar incident in the coming days.
The city is presently experiencing a security crisis after almost daily, unidentified gunmen shot and killed prominent people here.
Last Saturday, a gunman shot and killed a barangay kagawad and former Rotary Club president in this city. Followed by the killing of a lady trader and wounding his business partner a policeman in this city.
