Evangelist Bro. Eddie Villanueva is reportedly “elated’ by the outcome of his meeting with President Duterte who apologized to God over his disparaging statements.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said Villanueva appreciated the President’s gesture and admitted he “misunderstood” Duterte.

The President met Villanueva, founder of the Jesus Is Lord Movement, at the Malago clubhouse in Malacañang park Tuesday night, and explained the context surrounding his statements about God. Villanueva earlier called on Duterte to issue an apology to God after calling Him “stupid.”

The meeting, arranged by Panelo, started at 8 p.m. and lasted for two and a half hours.

“From the remarks after the meeting Brother Eddie Villanueva seemed elated on the outcome of his dialogue with PRRD,” Panelo said in a statement.

“Brother Eddie expressed appreciation on the explanation of PRRD and said that he and other Christian groups misunderstood him,” he added.

Panelo said Duterte told Villanueva that his statement about God was made after Australian nun Patricia Fox used “the name of God in vain” and her “religion to violate the law.”

“PRRD said he apologized to God immediately after he made the statements telling Him he was not included in his commentary,” Panelo said.

In the meeting, Panelo said Villanueva offered prayers for the President’s protection and guidance.

“He asked permission to PRRD to pray with him and the former acceded,” he said. “While Brother Eddie was saying his prayers the President closed his eyes, clasped his hands and bowed his head,” he added.

Also present in the meeting was lawyer Angelino Villanueva, cousin of the evangelist, who is also a fraternity brother of Panelo.
