TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE – A farmer association from Dagami town this province has availed P775,000 assistance from the provincial government for swine raising livelihood project, a report from the office of the governor said here Wednesday.
Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla who led the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, with him Lt. Col. Danilo Dupiag Battalion Commander 75th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army, during the turn-over of the swine told Manila Bulletin that the beneficiary organization is the Christian Farmers Welfare Association in barangay Calipayan with 27 members.
Petilla said that the project package consists of one breeder hog worth P75,000 and 20 females worth P35,000 each.
The governor said that that the beneficiaries underwent training and seminars on piggery production before his office extended the assistance to association.
The counterpart of the association are the materials and the construction of the pig pens where the swine are housed and taken cared for.
The project is expected to uplift the depressed socio-economic conditions of the association member-beneficiaries who are still reeling with the destruction brought about by super typhoon “Yolanda” last November 2013, Petilla said.
