Cop caught sleeping

Administrative charges may be filed against a police officer in Valenzuela City after he was caught sleeping while on duty, the top cop of the city police said.

On Monday midnight, PO1 Gary Garcia was caught sleeping during a surprise inspection conducted by National Capital Region Police Office chief Guillermo Eleazar.

Garcia is currently assigned as admin officer at the Marulas precinct in Valenzuela City.

According to city police chief Sr. Supt. David Nicolas Poklay, Garcia already reported to Eleazar to explain himself, pending investigation.

Quoting Garcia, Poklay said the rookie cop was not sleeping but he was just “late in reaction.”

“Series of inspection were likewise made to check the readiness of our personnel. It is really sad as there’s one who was caught sleeping. Definitely, he will undergo pre-charge investigation,” Poklay said.

Meanwhile, Poklay reminded his men to always stay awake, be alert, and always be ready to serve anytime. (Kate Javier)

Motorcyclists launch attack on cop companion

Two men, including a police officer assigned in Basilan, were injured in the latest attack by motorcycle-riding assailants in Caloocan City Sunday.

Investigators identified the victims as PO1 Allan Nocom, 43, assigned at Basilan Police Provincial Office, and Joselito Son, 56, junk shop helper. Both are residents of Caloocan.

Case investigator PO1 Anthony Wanawan said Nocom just went to Caloocan to attend a court hearing.

Initial investigation showed that the two men were talking in front of a junk shop along Josefina Street in Barangay 117 around 5:30 p.m. when two masked men onboard a motorcycle fired shots.

Nocom sustained gunshot wounds in the neck and back while Son was hit in the left arm. They were brought to Caloocan City Medical Center where they are currently recuperating.

Recovered from the scene were four empty shells of still unknown firearm.

According to Sr. Inspector Felipe Fermin Jr., city police investigation chief, they are now looking into old grudge as the possible motive behind the incident.

“Nocom’s relatives told us that he had an enemy who is also a cop,” Fermin said. (Kate Javier)

Killer finally caught

A man, wanted for allegedly killing a worker who was on his way home, was arrested by cops Sunday afternoon in Tondo, Manila.

The suspect, identified as Joel Morales, 46, of Pilapil St. Tondo, Manila, was arrested on June 14 by virtue of warrant of arrest issued on April 2, 2018 by Hon. Judge Virgilio Macaraig of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 37.

Elements of the Malate Police Station implemented the warrant of arrest at around 5 p.m. along Dagupan corner Pilapil Street in Tondo, Manila, which resulted to the arrest of the suspect.

Reports said that last year on October 12, the victim identified as Yoyoy Morta was waiting for a ride home with his friend along Dagupan St. when Morales, who was reportedly intoxicated, began to shout at the victim, which led to a brief altercation.

After a few minutes, however, Morales came back and stabbed the victim to death with a broken bottle.

Morales, who reportedly went into hiding since the incident, was detained at the Malate Police Station without bail. (Hans Amancio)

AWOL cop killed

A policeman who was on AWOL was gunned down while his cohort was injured after they were shot by the police officer they attempted to kill Sunday in Muntinlupa City.

The fatality was identified as Pedro Delgado, a former PNP personnel who was last assigned in Mindanao. His cohort was identified by police as Alfredo Alcaraz, a beerhouse boy residing in Muntinlupa City.

The victim, PO1 Danilo Cuambot, currently assigned to the Libertad PCP in Pasay City, came out unscathed after the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that the incident occurred at 5 in the afternoon at Soldiers Hill, Alabang, Muntinlupa. The motorcycle-riding gunmen fired upon PO1 Cuambot who was driving his red Toyota Vios.

The police officer managed to retaliate and shot back resulting in the immediate death of Delgado, and wounding of Alcaraz. Delgado was identified through his identification card and also by responding policemen since he was a former member of the Muntinlupa City Police Station.

According to authorities, the real target of Delgado was Rommel Cuambot, the father of PO1 Cuambot. The victim might have been mistaken by the suspects as his father.

They added the this was the second attempt on the life of Rommel after he was injured some years ago in an ambush. Police are eyeing land dispute as possible motive in the incident.

Delgado was formerly assigned to the Muntinlupa CPS before being reassigned to MPD NCRPO and then reassigned to Mindanao. He reportedly went AWOL and was dismissed from the service.

Aside from this, he also has a standing Warrant of Arrest for Carnapping, Illegal Discharge of firearm and illegal Possession of firearm some years ago.

He is also considered a high-value target of the Muntinlupa CPS. (Dhel Nazario)

Man jumps from ferris wheel

A man died after jumping down from a 190-foot ferris wheel of an amusement park in Pasay City on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Jayson Asumbrado through a Convergy’s ID that was found from him. He was about 27-30 years old, 5’5 to 5’6 foot tall with a tattoo on the left arm.

Initial investigation according to the two ride attendants, Dexter John Ocreras, 22, and Jonathan Soberano, 26 that they assisted the victim on his first ride at the Giant Wheel at around 5:20 in the afternoon.

The victim rode again at around 7:40 in the evening while his body was found on the ground of the said ride at 7:50 in the evening. The two attendants added that the victim boarded Gondola no. 23 of the ferris wheel.

During the ocular investigation by police investigators, at the place of the incident, they noticed that there was a portion of the Gondola covered by a screen while the other was covered with fiberglass.

They further noticed that one slide of fiberglass at the middle level was apparently pulled out and presumably used by the victim to get out of the Gondola.

The victim was brought to the Adventist Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival due to multiple physical injuries.

Police are still investigating if there was a problem with regards to the said ride. (Dhel Nazario)
