CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union — The Region 1 police office has gained headway in the campaign against illegal gambling activities after the arrest of 1,223 violators from the Ilocos provinces within the period of January 2018 to June 18, 2018.
The police have filed 284 cases related to illegal gambling activities were filed in court within the same period.
Chief Supt. Romulo E. Sapitula, regional police director, said his men on the ground conducted simultaneous anti-illegal gambling operations in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.
For the four-day anti-illegal gambling operations on June 15-18, the operating police officers arrested 123 violators.
On the latest anti-illegal gambling operations in the region, the police officers have arrested seven in Ilocos Norte, 12 in Ilocos Sur, 80 in La Union and 24 in Pangasinan. The cops have conducted 36 anti-illegal gambling operations and have confiscated bet money amounting to P19, 548.00.
Sapitula said the massive crackdown on illegal gambling is part of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) initiative to stop illegal gambling in Region 1 in response to the President Duterte’s directive to end illegal gambling in the country.
“Our police will conduct relentless operations like this to prevent the proliferation of illegal gambling activities and this is a way of expressing our sincere efforts in ensuring the welfare of the community,” he added.
