Sen. Sonny Angara posted on Facebook yesterday a video honoring his late father Edgardo Angara, as he spends the first Father’s Day without him.

The video, titled as “Happy Father’s Day in Heaven, Pa!,” highlights clips showing elder Angara’s life as a public servant and some glimpse of his personal life.

The senator said his father was the true foundation of their home, giving them the most beautiful blessing of all — a good education.

Looking back, the younger Angara remembered how his father had always been supportive to them. “You were our biggest supporter but also our greatest critic, holding us to very high standards which you also held against yourself.”

And while Edgardo Angara played different roles in life, for his son, the most important role he played was being a great father and grandfather to his grandchildren.

“Millions have you to thank for making their lives better. For the invaluable service you offered, the country can only be grateful… But while you held the nation’s hand through very trying times, I will always remember how you held my hand when I was child,” he said.

“People know him as a lawyer, column and book writer, university president, agriculturist and farmer, banker, legislator and finally, a diplomat. Pero para sa amin, ang pinaka-importanteng papel na iyong nagampanan ay bilang ama sa amin at lolo sa iyong mga apo,” the younger Angara added.

Ending the tribute, younger Angara expressed his love for his father. “We love you, Pa. You’ll always be in our hearts. Salamat sa lahat.”

Edgardo Angara passed away on May 13. He was known for his advocacies in education, economy, health, and agriculture.
