The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NORPPO) reported a 40 percent drop in the volume of crimes in Negros Oriental from 397 crime incidents for May this year compared 665 for the same month last year.
PSSupt Raul Tacaca of NORPPO said that due to intensified joint coordination with other law enforcement agencies, active community involvement, police visibility and other anti-crime activities, crime incidents in the province dipped by 40 percent.
Tacaca reported that the crime volume comprised of 79 index crimes and 318 non-index crimes. He said index crimes decreased by 100 incidents, non-index crimes dropped by 168 incidents, that total crime volume decreased at 268.
Physical injuries top crimes at 23 incidents, theft at -15, robbery 12, murder 4, rape 9, motor-napping at 8 and homicide at 2. Supt Tacaca also said traffic-related incidents at 181 largely contributed to the crime statistics.
Non-index crimes as a violation of special laws reached 110 incidents and other non-index crimes went 27, to contribute to the total crime volume.
For non-index crimes or offenses punishable by the Dangerous Drugs Act and Special Laws netted 34 drug personalities arrested and 39.09 grams of shabu seized with a total street value of more than P461,262.00, Tacaca said.
On the campaign against illegal gambling, the police arrested 21 persons and confiscated bet money amounting to P9,544.00. As for the campaign against loose firearms or RA 8294, PNP arrested 4 persons, confiscated 8 firearms, and accomplished 5 surrendered fire-arms.
Col. Tacaca also said police recorded 70.53 percent crime clearance efficiency against 78.95 percent then and 64.48 crime solution efficiency versus 74.59 as against the same period last year.
