CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A 22-year old habal-habal driver was killed when policemen raided a drug den in Puerto Galera which also resulted in the arrest of a foreigner and three others last Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent Christopher C. Birung, provincial director of Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (PPO), identified the slain suspect as Ildefonso M. Nanola alias “Jay-ar”, while the arrested foreigner, Stefan Reinli, 49, single, a Swiss national, was arrested together with two female companions identified as Marilou M. Nanola, 53, Cherrilyn T. Sarangilo, 30, and one John Michael P. Sarangilo, 25, a construction worker, all residents of Sitio Aplaya, Barangay Sinandigan, Puerto Galera.
Investigation showed that at about 3:45 p.m. last Wednesday, joint personnel of Provincial Drug Enforcement Team and Puerto Galera DET conducted a buy-bust operation in the place resulting in an armed encounter between the police operatives and Sarangilo, who was reportedly armed with a 9mm pistol.
Thereafter, police arrested the other suspects and the foreigner who was staying in the place for allegedly having a pot session in a drug den and for illegal possession of shabu.
Birung said that nobody on the government side was hurt and that they recovered 21 sachets of shabu, Sarangilo’s 9 mm handgun, buy-bust money and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, in Bulalacao town, a seven-year-old victim was killed when an M-203 ammunition exploded in Sitio Breeding, Barangay Nasucob last Wednesday.
Glen M. Osorio, the father of the victim, reported to the police that he saw his son Glenrey at about 12:15 p.m. carrying a metal object which the child picked up in a vacant lot and brought it home thinking that it was a toy.
When the young Osorio hammered the rifle grenade, it exploded hitting him. He was rushed to the Bulalacao Community Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
