Less than a week before classes in public schools start, the Manila government distributed P5 million worth of educational assistance to at least 1,000 students in the city.
The students came from public schools in Districts I to VI and Baseco, Manila. Each of them received P5,000.
“The assistance will augment family expenses for school needs such as ‘baon’, uniform, school supplies, school shoes, materials for school projects, among others,” said Mayor Joseph Estrada, who led the distribution of the school items.
Estrada advised the students to focus on their studies and serve an inspiration to others as scholars of the government.
“Mga bata, lahat kayo ay binigyan ng pagkakataong makapag-aral ng libre. Kaya dapat, maging magsipag kayo sa homework at projects (Children, all of you were given the opportunity to study for free. So you have to be industrious with your homeworks and projects). I want you to be an inspiration to others so they could emulate you and do what you are doing as scholars of the government,” Estrada said.
