Bohol Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado is seeking the construction of a bridge connecting the islands of Bohol and Leyte.
The neophyte lawmaker said the construction of an all-weather Bohol-Leyte Link Bridge will enhance economic activities in the two islands.
“The bridge will improve mobility of people, goods and services and will create employment opportunities for the people. It will also provide easier access to basic social services such as schools and health centers, ” Aumentado said.
He cited that infrastructure development is among the top priorities of the government under its “Build, Build, Build” program which is contained in the 2017-2022 Philippine Development Plan.
Aumentado filed House Bill 7130 seeking the construction of a Bohol-Leyte Link Bridge connecting the islands of Bohol and Leyte under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“The measure is intended to realize what has been the aspiration of the people of the Visayas to have connectivity and mobility among the various provinces,” he said.
“Now is the best time to start seeing the island provinces linked by bridges which are more resilient against the changing climate and extreme weather conditions, ” he said.
HB 7130 provides that the construction of the Bohol-Leyte Bridge will connect the Visayas group of islands to the so-called Maharlika Highway. “Once completed, the bridge will provide a safe and convenient travel to the public. The construction of this bridge is expected to spur economic activity and lead to the creation of more jobs, thus improving the quality of life in the area,” he said.
The measure tasks the DPWH secretary to include in its program the construction of the Bohol-Leyte Link Bridge, the funding of which shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act (GAA).
