Catarman, Northern Samar – The town of San Jose has come up with a tourism and sports plan in anticipation of the influx of visitors once Boracay island in Aklan is shut down this month.
San Jose Mayor Clarence E. Dato told Manila Bulletin he has coordinated with the Department of Tourism (DOT) for accrediting and training residents as tourist guides.
Dato said the town will be promoting the white sand beaches of Pangilala, Matungko, Cabaungan Grande and Tanddang islands, along with the Monbon sandbar.
He said the sites are beginning to attract local and foreign tourists.
San Jose will also be the drop-off point for tourists going to the rock formations in Biri island, since the island’s three barangays are just across the town.
Dato said the town will be aggressively promoted as outdoor sports and mountaineering destinations ahead of the Carangian Outdoor Festival in November.
