The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will destroy today in Trece Martires City, Cavite province some P2.34 billion worth of dangerous drugs seized by the agency during its various operations.
PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon said that the destruction of dangerous drugs will be held at the “Integrated Waste Management, Incorporated (IWMI)” in Barangay Aguado through thermal decomposition.
Thermal decomposition is the process by which various compounds are broken down into single unit by the application of heat wherein reconstruction of the substances is impossible.
Aside from PDEA Director-General Aaron Aquino, other officials including Surigao Del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs, are expected to witness the destruction.
Aquino said the routine destruction of seized illegal drugs is in accordance with the provision of the law and will eliminate any misconception that these items are being recycled and peddled back onto the streets.
PDEA noted that the destruction of the illegal substance is mandated under the guidelines set on the custody and disposition of the confiscated dangerous drugs required in Section 21, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 1, Series of 2002.
Part of the destruction today is the P563,460,626.91 worth of illegal drugs seized by PDEA last January 25 from a facility of the Clean Leaf International Corporation, Barangay Maysilo, Malabon.
